neighbours

You can’t pick your neighbours.

I moved into USJ about twenty years ago with my family.

As a middle class neighbourhood, most of the residents were families with children, young professionals and a few business owners. To break the ice and get to know them while introducing ourselves, we decided to host a Deepavali open house. We invited them personally and most were pleased to accept.

We did some proper planning on the food being served, the rearrangement of seating to accommodate the crowd and festive decorations. Of course we had to rope in our own children to help and delegated tasks to be done while making out a simple excel sheet of dates and jobs due and name of vendors, etc.

This turned out to be a much bigger project than we all expected and the excitement soon grew to a challenge for some of us. Soon with all our planning and joint preparations, we found everything fell into place….it was wonderful to meet our neighbours and make new friends.
