JERUSALEMA…the song that grooved the world
I watch YouTube ads from
different countries to see the content, marvel at the creativity and how people
in other countries react to a brand.
A chance view at an advertisement by PORSCHE had me awestruck.
The scenario was in an auto manufacturing plant in Germany, where all the
employees from the mechanics , engineers , general workers , sales staff to the
management take part in the “Jerusalema Dance Challenge” .
I was intrigued by the upbeat song, energetic beat and synchronised dance
steps that seemed relatively easy to follow. this South African song had lyrics
I couldn’t understand yet the beat was so catchy that it made me watch this
again and again.
This amazing Afrobeat song has been played and danced to just about all
around the world!
This global hit soon went viral generating millions of views and became an
online “Dance Challenge” despite being in a language most people didn’t know or
have ever commonly heard and quickly became one of the top songs on Spotify and
other popular playlists.
The fantastic feel-good rhythm, repetitive melody and celebratory beat just
made anyone listening, shake their heads and arms, tap their feet and soon get
up and try the steps. It inspired a whole slew of flash mobs, dance school enthusiasts,
groups of children, policemen, nurses
and varied groups to get together, choreograph their own version and dance in
national costumes at scenic locations.
How did this one hit wonder amaze the world???
This South African upbeat song was released just before Covid hit the world
and exploded into a much-loved anthem among the youth , musicians, dancers and made
the world unite in dance!
