Hey there, my name is Shan and with close to 16 years of working experience at varied job responsibilities and industries in sales, sponsorship, media, and campaign management I decided to do something I always wanted to do. Helping people and be part of a solution. Yes, I say it! it may sound cliché but that is what I always wanted to do. I always have this thing in me where I always curious and question about things that work around me. In my previous job, as an employee I was required to do exactly that …to do as the bosses wanted but without asking too many questions. well, I guess I did pretty good at it.. but as I grow older I was not so happy. I wanted to more, I wanted to create my comfort zone where I still required to do real work but with a purpose. With the current pandemic on the rise, my current job which requires me to work with competitive sports events around the world …came to halt. So, I decided to pursue my long abandon calling to help people in need. So, for now, I am freelancing for a media agency while exploring something I always wanted to do but never had the guts to do so …. a Food reseller.
A few months back I knew this lady whole sells homemade delicacies via WhatsApp group. Being a curious person myself I decided to contact this to purchase her sambal garing. A few days later I received the sambal garing and wow! I must say it is probably the best Ikan Bilis garing I ever tried. I shared it with my wife, and she agrees with me. I was excited …of course from eating the sambal but this excitement I’m feeling now is a bit more different than how I used to feel. That night one question kept me awake. If her Sambal Garing is so good, why is not popular? Why haven’t I heard about it before? This keeps me thinking. Being a single mother with 2 school going children and being a small-time caterer Puan Seroja, that the sambal garing makers name, have a good reputation among villagers in Sabak Bernam, but at times she struggles to make ends meet. She knows a few neighbors that make a food product for the local market and occasions. When heard this, I knew I have to something about it. That is when I decided to market Seroja and her friend’s food production for local business ….to KL market to be precise. Now I’m in the midst of designing Seroja’s new food packaging for all her food product from the halal kitchen that we set up. Sambal garing , simpul kasi , serunding, kuih siput ,daging dendeng to name few. So, I realize now most times we have to ask around to know how things affect people wellbeing. Not everyone builds the way we are. Some are shy and some are a bit bold in expressing themselves, but one should be honest when offering help without expecting anything in return. In that case, I did my part helping people and get a bit of bonus return by getting a new business partner. I happy now that we are in the midst of designing & planning our new business venture together and happy to call Ms Seroja my new business partner.
